Last year, there was no money for signings; this summer, Betis have spent only €1.6m on players. For that, they brought in nine footballers. Theirs in not the smallest budget in the division – Rayo, Racing, Sporting, Osasuna and Levante have all spent less – but there are only two players in the squad that cost anything: Javier Matilla, who joined from Villarreal for €1.4m (and so far is not even playing), and Antonio Amaya from Wigan for €200,000.
